I recently saw a technical email from a lead engineer that was written in text-message/IM/AOL-speak (a significant lack of vowels and other interior letters of words, etc.) That one got circulated around a bit, then finally up to his supervisor with a complaint.

Trash email is one thing, but in a technical email that describes requirements and testing limits and techniques, that was horribly unacceptable.

Was it sent from his cell phone? Who was the intended recipient?

2 Labs Techs and 3 SW engineers. It was also supposed to be put into the requirements. And no, he wrote it from his desk. Apparently, he just has a habit of writing like that, but this was the first time he had to email people outside his little group.

I one called someone at my office a noob. Thankfully, I didn't say it loud enough to be heard, and have since vowed never to use WoW-speak again, even on Ventrilo with my guildies.

I once said "O Rly?" to a coworker accidently. She replied with a "ya rly" and a smile. :D

When you say "O Rly" it DOES come out as "Oh, really?"

Yes, it was basically "Oh, really?" But her reply was not "Yeah, really," but rather "ya really," indicating she was following up with the expected response and a smile than indicated we were on the same page.
