yeah i plugged everything in and pushed the power button on the back.....as soon as i did that a faint, high pitched sound emanated that quickly stopped....it sorta sounded like a vacuum cleaner right when u push the off button except much fainter. if u think my board is scorched, can i send it back for another?

you could try remounting the board on the correct standoffs & seeing if it works but it doesn't sound hopeful! :(

Out of interest how can you do that?

The board wont line up with the universal plate on the case, it would be to low.
Non of the cards will seat fully into the slots as the board is to low.

Your MB is toast.

I would test your CPU and RAM, but they are probably fine. The board probably shorted before power even got that far, (did you catch the funny smell) but that would depend on where you screwed it into the mount.

My girlfreind just did the same damn thing to the MB I gave to her as a gift. It had a 1.33 and 256MB of ram that are okay still...

My board I sent back to try and RMA it, I don't know if they will or not. I bought a new one, because I assume they wont do anything about it...

I am amazed you got the cards to seat. I am sure they gave you trouble. I personally can't advise to return it since your the one that did it. If you call the RMA department and are truthful, they probably won't help you, but they might.

I can only guess that your mobo is dead, it might of killed your processor and maybe your memory. I doubt it would of killed much else, but you can only tell by putting them in a working system and see.

No offense, but the board is not DOA - to return it as such would be stealing. This kind of behaviour makes prices higher for the rest of us. You made a legitmate mistake, they may or may not refund your money. If they don't, expensive lesson learned.

I don't get it! You forgot to install those little gold-colored risers and instead screwed the mobo into the base of the case itself?
