Ooops...this can't be a smart thing to do. Star Wars: AOTC DVD released on 11/12

Looks like they are trying to compete with the 4-disc and 5-disc LOTR monster sets that will be released on 11/12. This will hurt their sales on opening week greatly. Foolish move Fox! :D

The fact that someone farting on a piece of celluloid is better than AOTC was, I'd say they probably will be outsold by a lot of movies. :)

Well, buying a DVD is not like buying a car or a house. People can always get both which I will do.

So will I, but not everyone is into DVDs that much, or has a budget like that.

Most consumers will be faced with... "hmmm, buy the best DVD package ever created in history, or get this somewhat mediocre star wars release"

Don't get me wrong, I will buy star wars Ep2, just maybe not on opening week now. I will be dedicating all my time to the LOTR set anyway. Let's see... a 3.5 hour movie with FOUR commentaries...that is 17.5 hours right there, then two discs of supplemental material which will be AT LEAST 6 hours, so there we have about 24 solid hours of time to spend with the LOTR set initially :D AOTC will have to wait :D

People can buy both, but, I suspect for those who will only buy 1, LOTR be the one. Not to say AOTC won't do well, just probably not as well as it might have done without the competition.

And of course, this might hurt LOTR sales a bit, too - although, I would think most who would want to buy the LOTR monster set aren't going to get swayed by a regular (?) edition AOTC. I know I won't :)

Geez, dude. Harsh. There are a lot of really BAD movies out there, and AOTC was definitely not one of them. It will outsell a lot of movies, but probably still be outsold by LOTR and Spider-man, to name a few. I personally am going to wait for the Star Wars Saga boxed set coming out after Ep. 3. Haven't heard anything yet, but I'm sure there will be one...

For the amount they spent on it, it was a horrible movie.

It had it's cool factor though (Yoda anyone?! :D) and it's the perfect movie to play on a nice home theater setup...but yes, it's not a great piece of filmmaking if you look at it like that. Poor george will never match those originals.

Exactly my point. Besides, who cares how much they spent on it? Still cost me 8 bucks.;) Anyway, it wasn't the worst movie that was that expensive either - that esteemed prize goes to Waterworld. :)

LOL. You do realize that LOTR isnt the greatest thing since sliced bread to most people right?

Besides, its the special edition, in other words, the "costs twice as much" edition.

That being said, I'm still buying both on release. LOTR will prob be the one to enter the dvd player first.

But AOTC kicked ass regardless.

Kami, I think its really a moot point. The monster FOTR sets will draw a different price crowd than AOTC. Lets face it, its they are spending $40+ to buy a box set, these same people will probably have no problems getting the AOTC DVD. If however it was the plain FOTR DVD without all the extra junk, then it would be an issue. Most people (non hardcore LOTR fans) will probably just get the FOTR coming out this month and will get the AOTC in November.

I thought the 4 DVD set was coming out in August, too? I guess not. I'd rather wait until they get a directors cut anyway.

But I already have the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3-disc set.

It won't be $40+. The 4 disc set is already up for pre-sale under $30...look for it around $24.99 or less in the B&M stores on release date...same price or only a couple dollars more than the SW release.

But I already have the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3-disc set.
A great set but hardly the best IMO. I had more fun with the Fight Club 2 disc.

Everyone I know who saw lotr said it was ok...so I don't think it has as big a following as star wars

don't give me box office numbers either, there are alot of factors that play into those figures, like the economy, other movies showing at their release etc.

Count me as one of those stupid ones.

I never saw the movie (saw LOTR multiple times instead) so I preordered Harry Potter. After watching that piece of garbage, I wondered how many other people were like me and bought it without knowing how bad the movie was.

I will buy both movies. I won't, however, buy the "extra special mega ultra super release" of LOTR, on 17 discs, for $90. I just want the plain old movie, like all my other movies.

I bought a 10-week rental card from blockbuster for $25 that includes a dvd copy of the version of LOTR that is going to be released soon. I get one free dvd rental per week until I use all ten. If I don't get a movie, the credit rolls over to the next week and is valid for up to 2 years.

So basically I got a free copy of LOTR. On 11/12, do you think I'm going to buy another copy of a movie I already own, or one of the best movies in the Star Wars series?

Yeah, could have been so much better. Such a bland and lifeless interpretation of a great book. Second one doesnt look to be much better.

Though the 4 disc LOTR set wont be that expensive, it isnt for the casual fan/viewer. Most people who liked the movie, but arent fanatics, will have already paid for the 2 disc set three months prior. In fact, it would be interesting to see how many of the 4 disc set are produced compared to the 2 disc set.

Its quite likely that Star Wars will outsell LOTR because there are not that many people that will buy it twice over, nor will there be many people who will hold off their purchase for 3 months to get the 4 disc set.

Am I the only one who thinks the person/people in charge of designing the DVD Cover art should be shot? Good god that is one nasty ass looking DVD cover. And Episode 1 sucked as well.... sigh...

:)
