BFG 6800 Ultra OC
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
WD Raptor 74GB
Lite-on CDR/DVD Combo
Coolermaster Wavemaster case w/ Antec 550

Out of all mobo's, you chose an MSI motherboard? You know they purposely use bad caps right?

Hey man how's the noise on your grpahics card I just got in on a deal at compusa for a prebuy of a 6800 GT, for $280, I'm debating whether I should plan on keeping it or, sell it on ebay, if it's nice and quiet I'll sure as hell keep it.

Yes, that MSI is a great board, Nokia must not have used it.

I think everyone needs to realize how big a company like MSI is. They, like DFI have several different lines, and this one is top of the top.

Bump for a good board!

That's why they now specifically talk about using high-quality, Japanese caps on their boards, right?

Somehow I don't think that any board maker would intentionally use bad caps. Cheap caps that could turn out to be bad caps, maybe, although hopefully not these days. But intentionally using bad caps? What does that buy them?

That MSI is a great board. Have you personally owned one? I'm guessing not.

I had a horrible experience with the MSI 655 MAX motherboard, RMAd it FIVE times before getting a good one... (through newegg)

well... its only loud during bootup. once windows kicks in the drivers control fan speed and it quiets down. overall, i would say its not that loud.

But when you are in a game like Farcry or some other graphic intensive game, does it throttle back up and become as loud as when it boots?

Thanks for the feed back. I'm thinking of going back to Nvidia again but that is the only problem I would have (noise). If I'm playing a game like Splinter Cell in which stealth and quite are needed, not too many explosions, I was wondering if a high pitched whine would annoy me.

i will let you know tonight... :). I will game a bit with the speakers off and let you know how loud the pc gets.

give you a gist of what I believe is quiet acceptably quiet is under 30db. My highest rated fan is my heatsink panaflow which is 30db. so when windows kicks in... it gets quiet.

ok... the 6800 Ultra is really not that loud when you game either. Its rather quiet, it really blends in with the case fans.
