I'm assuming an OLED screen is one that uses tiny LED's to create text vs using an LCD? How does battery life and washout in lighter environments work out on them?

Not exactly. OLED info. I believe they are much more efficient than LCDs. I just like the sort of retro look they give off. Hey, they can get 20 hours of playback time out of a 1" cube, that's pretty amazing!
