OK, I'm not sure what to think about this... late last year, I had my wisdom tooth pulled, and my dentist gave me her cell phone# in case I had problems/questions (it was a bottom tooth, they're more troublesome than the top teeth). I added her into my cell phone's phone book. Anyway... I think I started developing dry socket, so I called her, using my phone's directory.. and the usual expected action occurred...her name was shown, it dialed, it rang, she answered, etc.

Now, today, I was looking for the office# but forgot it, so I figured I'd call her cell since it's in my phone book on my phone. I dial it... it rings... and some guy named Chris answers. Obviously, a mis-dial would've been impossible. I ask him how long he's had that number (maybe she ditched her service and he got her old number). He says a couple years.

:Q

What the hell??? Maybe I'm missing something..but.. how is this possible? Not to mention the other very odd fact that I used to be able to find her office number on www.switchboard.com.. and now her entry is gone.

What a weird day...

She has been abducted by The Praetorians, and they want their computer disk back?

Maybe it was a misdial...call again.

I called again. And like I said... misdial is not possible, it was dialed directly from my cell phone's phonebook.

cant really be a misdial if the number was programmed both times he called

if the phone does the dialing there isnt much of a chance of it messing up

Maybe she had a gender change & named herself Chris, and now denies any history of dentistry. :D

I'd rather undergo surgery than go to the dentist. So when I find one I like, I like to stick with that one. But hey, if I must, then I'll find a new one..

Well, drive to the office.

I was considering it. The -22 degree weather was inhibiting me...but... my curiosity is running mad. I think I'll drive over and see what's going on, why she vanished from the yellow pages, and why her cell# doesn't link to her. I won't be too surprised (but I will be even more confused) if I find an empty office suite.

The outcome: her sign was still up... door was closed, locked, lights off. Hmm..strange.

Anyway, the reason she's no longer in the yellow pages is because she has an official name for her practice now. And maybe they're just closed on Fridays. The part I can't figure out is the cell phone thing, though.. I guess I'll find out Monday, if I can get a hold of her.

Ok.. first thing about this that I think is weird is that she gave you her cell phone # in the first place. That seems like a rather personal thing to give out. Personally, I wouldn't give that kind of info out to my patients.. I would just make them call my answering service and in turn call them back and then set up a time for them to contact me.

Am I alone on this?

Did they make modification to the area codes where you live? Maybe the person is now in a different area code?
