We (a SW company) once had a tech support call with the customer insisting on her computer being "unstable". The problem was so severe she couldn't use the said computer at all.
Sending a tech guy over turned up one of the stand-offs on the keyboard got folded back in...

pretty sure it was a user on AT who posted a story about how he sold a mobo/CPU to someone he knew who then called him claiming it didn't work. When he went over to look at it he discovered that his friend had cut about 4 inches off the bottom of the mobo because it " didn't fit in his case"
