only up to 220 mhz FSB overclock...this is pathetic!! HELP!!

Hi.
First let me start with my system:
Athlon64 3500+
Abit AV8 motherboard
2 x 512 OCZ pc3700 EB platinum
Asus x800 pro
74 gig WD raptor
M-audio audiophile sound card
thermaltake xaser III supertower with all fans
Thermaltake venus 12 cpu cooler.

The thing is I can't get the FSB up more than 220. the system crashes almost immediatly after running 3d marks. It can take 216 with no problem with the preset turbo mode in abit's uGURU.

I can run an overlock perfectly stable with:
FSB: 216 mhz
mult: 11x
CPU: 2376 mhz
Vcore: 1.7
DDRV: 2.7
SBV:2.6
AGPV:1.65
NBV:1.6
HTV:1.3
AGP ratio: fixed

This is the last setting I ventured resulting in crash.
FSB: 222 mhz
mult: 10x
CPU: 2220 mhz
Vcore: 1.7
DDRV: 2.9
SBV:2.6
AGPV:1.65
NBV:1.6
HTV:1.35
AGP ratio: fixed

memory timings are in auto mode in both: 3-2-2-8

Temperature readings are all fine.

what could be the problem? I really don't know how much more can I pump the volatages on my system and I've read ppl having stable FSB up to 240-250 which is nowhere near mine. Please help me out.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong...but I believe your board does not have a working PCI lock. That would explain your fsb overclocking issues...especially since you're using SATA.

Do you have the most current bios?

According to what I've read the abit av8 has a working lock. Maybe it's not working?
I have the most current bios. There's no updates yet on abits page.

Also I have a thermaltake pure power supply 420 Watts

Try lowering the HT multiplier to 4x or 3x.

I can't seem to find where to change the HT multiplier on abit's bios.
Try looking for LDT or Lightning Transport something.

THANK YOU!!!

I just tried that and I could finally go over 220 mhz.

The last settings I tried before system crash were:

FSB: 230 mhz
mult: 10x
CPU: 2300 mhz
Vcore: 1.7
DDRV: 2.9
SBV:2.6
AGPV:1.65
NBV:1.6
HTV:1.35
AGP ratio: fixed

I then lowered the multiplier to 9x and can't seem to get over 233. But oh well, Much much better than before!.

I don't think cpu is the limit yet since I've achieved 2370 mhz stable before.
