My bro. had his friends over for like the day, and they were using the computer for like 2 hrs, and I got a ton of viruses. They were transfering files, from the camera, and I think the other computer.

I followed the consolodated security thread, and got rid of most of the stuff, but not all.
I still have trojan horse, and a little bit of other crap. Please help get rid of it.

I'm going to follow the consolodated security thread, because that was confusing me, but thanks anyways. :)
If you want to hunt down my Bro's friends that would be greatly appreciated. LOL.

It was confusing? Make a folder, download a file and unzip it. Download another file. Run a command. Eat pizza and polish your handgun while looking up your brothers' friends in the phone book.

I followed the consolodated security thread, and it removed a crapload of junk. My computer is happy and chirping like a newborn bird now.

@mechbgon: Ok to tell the truth this scared me. "If you haven't backed up your data, obviously this could be dangerous. Use at your ownrisk. :p"

That disclaimer belongs on basically every malware-removing procedure, I think :) Backing up your data is a smart idea when you're about to try to wrest back control of your system from the malware.

Anyway, glad to hear your system's doing better, now get password protection on your user accounts so they can't pull that stunt again!

More than likely all the stuff that was on your computer was put there intentionally. There's no way they can get that much stuff on your system in that short of a time from just normal usage... and i haven't heard of any malware or virus that actually removed your pop-up blockers.

Well I found out that they hooked up a laptop that was full of viruses, and no protection to the network and somehow the viruses got onto my pc.

I don't think there was any malware, but i have the trojan horse on my computer now, and I can't get rid of it. Mechbgon will that link get rid of it?
If not how can I get rid of it w/out sending it to a computer repair store?

EDIT: I tried the link and there is no link to download for #4 on the instructions, and I tried typing that c:\mcafee\scan.bat and it said it was not a valid command.
Do I need to just reformatt, and reinstall windows?

Download, Install, Update, and Run in both Reg. and safe mode Ewido and McAfee Stinger.

This is the command that the scan.bat file runs for you:

C:\McAfee\scan.exe /adl /all /allole /analyze /del /dohsm /mailbox /manalyze /mime /html C:\report.html /panalyze /program /streams /unzip /winmem

It may look like two commands on your monitor, but that is all one single line. It doesn't break at the C:\report.html even if it looks that way in your web browser. You can type it in manually, just spell everything exactly as it's shown. There's a space between the /html and the C:\report.html.

Will it get rid of the Trojan? I hope so, but since I don't know what Trojan it is yet, I can't tell you for sure. From the fact that your brother hooked up an infected laptop and your computer caught viruses from it, you need to get your computer fully updated at the Windows Update site and enable your Windows Firewall with no exceptions permitted. That would prevent that from happening.

I just reformatted and reinstalled windows. Now I'm downloading and installing all the stuff I had before.
Those viruses are gone now.

Excellent, and make sure you get your Windows Firewall or some other software firewall going, so your bro's friends can't give your PC viruses again. That kind is called "worms," they are a direct computer-to-computer infection that happens with no human involvement, so you want your PC to have its very own firewall to fend them off.

Making sure the computer is patched up will also eliminate the vulnerabilities that the worms are trying to get at in the first place, so run it through Windows Update and go into Control Panel > Automagic Updates and make sure it's updating itself automatically.

Thanks for all the help, and I will be sure to keep up to date on antispyware/antivirus software. In fact that's what I'm getting in order now. :)
