After many appeals, hoops, and red tape, I went in for my SSI hearing today and in less then 15 minutes of talking, I was approved finally!

YEA ME!

That is all :)

I am so stoked, I finally got my last monkey off my back. I have to wait another 2-3 months before I will see check one, but I dont care, I waited 8 years to get to this point and am just so overwhelmed with joy, and can finally sit back and relax. So much so Im getting drunk today and enjoying my victory. the judge after around 10-15 minutes said he heard enough, Im approved. I talked way more then my lawyer did, almost to a point I felt I didnt need her at all to stand up for me, but I needed to have her on my side just in case.

But no one can really grasp how I really feel and what this means to me and my family after waiting so long for this day to come.

Its going to take another 5-6 months before I will see my retro pay for 8 years of waiting. Gonna pay off my house loan I had to take out, and get my back part addition leveled out and set up to the height of the rest of the house so I can make use of the electric wheelchair I had delivered to me yesterday, and for when my back and knees finally gives out so I wont have to deal with stairs anymore and have it ready for when that day comes.

Yeah, I got 2 years backpay after I won my case. You are most likely entitled to it, although it may be more difficult in this economic climate.

When I first applied for SSI, I was basically a quadriplegic from the effects of muscular dystrophy. I couldn't walk, stand, feed or bathe myself and could barely control my power chair. At night, I used a BiPap machine to breathe for me. Despite all of this, I was denied for two years because I dared to go to college.

Yet, my morbidly obese alcoholic neighbor with 5 kids was approved the first time. she still walks without assistance and feeds her face with grease.

I seriously believe the system is flawed with rampant abuse and misjudgments.

Congrats anyway and I hope it will give your family some desperate needed relief.

Agreed, stuff like this gets abused often. I am surprised they don't take a closer look at this...a lot of 'our' money goes to it, you'd think it would be better regulated//end P&N
