Can I fix it or do I have to buy something? It's legit hp ink, the ink cartridges have worked fine until now and are about half full. All I'm trying to print is a resume with blank ink on regular paper.

Do a print head cleaning cycle. It's probably just the black print head is gummed up. (You could also try blotting it on a pad soaked in rubbing alcohol.)

1) print resume
2) turn your resume upside down and reversed?
3) then print it again - refeeding the same paper upside down

OK - what brand and model. If HP, you have the print head in the cartridge - every new cartridge is a new print head. If you have refilled the carts more than 2-3 tiomes, this is a normal consequence with HP carts.

HP isn't doing this with their new printers anymore. They save the money of producing millions of print heads each so their profit go up.

I've given up on HP, just bought an Epson.

That may be so, however, I, and many more have older printers and the cart is the head.

More like, they smelled the money of forcing the printer to have "cleaning cycles" every night, to maintain the built-in print heads. Ooh, is that the sound of ink being wasted that I hear?

You won't have an older inkjet printer for long. They weren't designed to last more than a year or so anyway. ():)

That maybe true in your world, Dave, but not mine. My Deskjet 6980 was bought in spring of 2006 - that is over 8 years ago, and it is still going strong - just as good as when it was new. Maybe they built 'em better back then. :)

Or they might have realized that many ink cartridges were coming back with nearly full capacities, but were unusable due to heads that were clogged with dried ink.
