my grandfather used to hang them by the throat on his cattle fence posts. supposed to deter other coyotes from coming in.

Yeah...because I guess all the other coyotes see the dead ones hanging there and talk among themselves - deciding that it's way too dangerous to venture onto that property.

Wanted to add that the "rancher" should add poisonous snakes to the mix.
