For a country that CAME FROM EUROPE in the first place, speaks a language derived from the same root as many European nations, and pretty much has its genetic roots in many of the nations located in Western Europe, it is amazing how retentive we have gotten.

This is not a call for people F'n in the streets, but to flinch so much at boobies that they are considered erotic is kinda weird (Hey, i am guilty of that too). Just like some cultures finding ankles erotic. You forbid it from being shown, when someone shows it it means SEX, no matter if it actually has anything to do with it or not.

So how do we get from a bunch of people who had no problem having naked men run around, throw things and wrestle to win medals, to one where we cover kids eyes at the statue of David?

There is a certain balance to this. You DO need clothing for protection, convenience and such. But the fact that we will give a movie a rating of R for a boobie, something MANY 4yo and younger have seen MANY more times than Daddy ever has, or will, and it requires the evisceration of another human being to get the same rating is more than a bit skewed.

And, although I would feel very uncomfortable about it for the first 5 years or so, I would STILL be in favor of relaxing our attitude towards things that DO NOT HURT OTHER PEOPLE (such as the body and sex) and a tightening back up and respect for other more serious issues of life and death (violence in general).

BTW, the whole taboo did come from religion. You do not need to genuflect to blush at the sight of boobies. Much of our culture's morality fits to traditional Christian faith. It is not hard to associate some other "sins" with agnostic "evils" in a primarily Christian nation.

No it said that just consuming alcohol publicly is not considered "förargelseväckande beteende", you have to make loud noises or be generally annoying too. A person running around naked in public spaces would be considered förargelseväckande beteende unless they had a very good reason for doing it I guess.

Edit: It's the swedish version of disorderly conduct.
Ah..so that is why swedes act out in Denmark...because they are not breaking any laws here? ;)

Atheist countries have harsher laws against nudity and pornography.

The Feminist left is more prudish than the religious right.
Define: Athiest countries?

I suspect your are being deliberately intellectual dishonest right now and equating to ism that is not the same thing:

Atheism
Commmunism

Please tell me that I am mistaken..and you didn't lie.

Putting your dick in someone elses hand is not the same as being nude ;)
Since you're Danish, I understand Swedish is not your native tongue. In Swedish law, sexual harassment includes flashing. End of story. You don't need to grope someone or force your genitalia onto someone's person to be charged with sexual harassment.

Disorderly conduct (förargelseväckande beteende) does not only regard alcohol consumption, the paragraph in the link explains that the mere consumption of alcohol in public does not count as disorderly conduct.

You are dead wrong and while Swedes in general have a pretty relaxed view on the human body, it's still illegal to run around naked in public.

That explains why you do it in Denmark then ;)

How many atheist countries stone people to death like the muslims do?

How many atheist countries spit on pre-teen girls on their way to school like Ultra-orthodox Jews do?

How many atheist countries had laws like the US did in the early 1900s?

Some, not all. And if you do enough research, you will find out why.

Many irrational behaviors have roots in some cultural dogma. The US's just happens to be Christianity.

Well written sir!
Thanks.

Many rules written based on religion are OK, in my book. Many have roots in cultural standards present before the religion itself.

It is when these roots are forgotten or willfully ignored and the reason for enforcement becomes "just because" that I get rather annoyed.

That answer only works on 3yo's and I don't even use it on mine. If you do not know "why", find out.

Oh come on. Look, I'll be the first to admit that we Americans are a bunch of hypocritical prudes. But "only in the US"? There are places where you'd get KILLED for pulling a stunt like that. There are countries that treat women with an uncovered neck worse than Americans treat a woman in a bikini.

Some perspective, please.

This has nothing to do with walking around naked in a store. And many on the religeosus side have no issue with the unclad body. To them it's a matter of propriety, not prudity.

Nice fail...as it IS religion that villifies the naked body...because it is also involed in something that has more power over people than their superstition...sex.

As several preachers from the US have shown when chaught with cock in mouth...so to say.
And not their own ;)

And if you are in denail still, answer me this:

What did the relgion-dealers do to naked tribesmens, when they strated destroying their native culture and livingways?

You try and run away from that...without lying ;)

Save your bullshit. Your whole post is a lie. I can be insulting to, but you never say anything intelligent enough to make it worthwhile even insulting you. Your posts make you look bad enough on their own.

Seriously, why is it that everything is religions fault on this forum. If you don't agree with wearing clothes then I say don't. Just start walking around naked. Take the subway naked. Go to McDonald's sit down and have a coffee naked. Don't let some wackos tell you that going bare is wrong. I think the good folks here on andtech ought to be allowed to do what they want. Have at it boys and girls its time to fight for what you believe.

Because some religious zealot 100 years ago said it was wrong.

I used to work with people who would tell you straight up that having a TV in your home was a sin and you were going to hell.

ya but I'm guessing your not a religious freak,so why aren't you walking around naked. I mean I don't don't agree with being a vegetarian even though some believe very strongly that I am a murderer because I eat meat. Even as that may be i still eat meat. So why are you still wearing clothes if this is just some religious thing that religions of the world are trying to control people with?

China has harsher laws on these things than America and to be accepted as a party member you must also declare that you don't believe in a god.so they definitely qualify as an athoest country

The topic is the US, not Muslim countries. Compare US censorship and prudery against that of China, Cuba, and the former Soviet Union. Even a mostly Muslim country like Turkey is probably better than those.

Since the OP is just trolling, and can't stand up to any disagreement, I'm out of this stupid American bashing thread.

You can look those up yourself, and post it for the OP, since I doubt he could find Google even if it was his homepage.

I can't speak for Texashiker or others but I wear clothes for a very selfish reason: I don't care about offending other people, I just don't want to offend myself. Look at my body, yechh!

blade, You should stick around a while longer. Andtech is sick and tired of having religion shoved down there throat and I think it's time for them to "stop listening to religious zealots" and start enjoying life free from the bonds of clothes and religion.
