Actually, I would describe it as somewhat ghetto. It's not the kind of mall with famous chain stores, and IIRC, it has many locally owned stores. (Don't get me wrong, I find regular malls depressingly boring and actually like the ones with local flavor.)

From the news I hear coming out a florida it seems it might be better to just cut off that bad leg and let it sink into the ocean.

I'm sure it's not all bad, but isn't there a disproportionately large amount of bad news coming out of the state lately?
