Actually, as a dog breeder, and competitior in performance events, sometimes it is necessary to run your dog for miles to get them in proper shape. Espically for performance events (ASFA, AKC Lure Corsing, LGRA, NOTRA). It is called 'road working' a dog. Pardon my spelling I've a bottle of wine.

I knew someone that would just drive his pickup truck with a kid in the back holding a doggy treat. The dog was a fast breed (can't remember which one) and they'd just drive around town with the dog chasing them. Then again, that was in a town in the sub-thousand region.
