Only half RAM recognized (2GB instead of 4GB)

Hello,

I've bought some Kingston HyperX 6400 RAM (KXH6400D2LLK2/4G) with 2x2GB for my computer. Somehow my BIOS only recognizes them as 2096MB RAM.

I have tried to boot with each time only one stick - and each time it shows me 1GB for it.

After doing some google-work, I found out that I'd have to raise the voltage from 1.8v to 2.0v for this RAM sticks. I've also changed 667Mhz to 800Mhz.. but nothing changes.

Any idea what I might have overseen?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers

EDIT: Mainboard Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR, latest firmware (F11)

How many forums have you posted this thread topic on?

The voltage spec for your Kingston DIMMs are 1.95v. Have you set the voltage in the BIOS to that voltage?

Here and on tomshardware.co.uk.

Yep, I had tried that too..

Have you tried the DIMMs in another PC?

To understand your problem...
Each 2GB labeled DIMM only shows up as a 1GB, no matter how the sticks and slots are configured?

No, unfortunately I don't have another computer to test them.

Exactly, both look like they're 1gb sticks - but they came as a set of 2x2gb ram. Now I've read that there could be some problems with 775 socket cpu's which are not placed properly. I've checked that and cpu place looks fine..

With both DIMMs installed, run SIW 2010 (System Information for Windows). 😉
I've never used a utility that reports the more detailed information about system components.

Alright, thanks, that might give me a clue. Right now I'm only running some Unix Systems, I'll try out SIW as soon I have access to Windows.

I really hope that they were not mislabled.
