This is old News here in Georgia but since it has made National News Headlines now might as well post it especially since it's Georgia at it again.

Article file name is called No Name School, Bahahahaha:

5-28-2004 University of Georgia's Name in Jeopardy

ATHENS, Ga. - Could the University of Georgia become a school with no name? All sides say that's unlikely, but the very identity of the 219-year-old university has become entangled in the school's messy divorce from a private fund-raising foundation. That is because the school let its trademark lapse and the foundation applied for the rights to all things labeled "University of Georgia."

The foundation applied for the trademark to the University of Georgia name last year after finding out that the school itself had let the trademark lapse in 1997.

Oops!

They probably had a creation scientist for a lawyer and he decided the school needed to be re-named The Garden of Eden State University at Athens. Or, was that The Athens Institute of Biblical Studies?

I was waiting for a fake-name contest. Here are my suggestions:
-University of the Confederacy at Athens (UCA)
-The confederate school of american patriotism
-Georgia B&R (Racism and Bigotry)

Here will be the new course catalog:
- religion 1: new testament
- religion 2: old testament
- racial superiority 101

There will be only one seminar class:
- foreign policy studies: unilateralism and violence as the answer to all problems

There will of course be no science, literature, art or foreign languages.

The trademark is still pending. Im betting the US Patent and Trademark Office doesnt give the foundation the trademark. The Foundation is NOT going to get the trademark, theres a little thing called first use, even if a registered trademark lapses, it doesnt give SOMEONE the right to trademark or use the trademark without premission.

Yeah, there has to be abandonment, but sheezh, ain't it too bad. :) We could have had a truly incandescent moment in Georgia.
