HELLO ALL,

I HAVE BEEN FACING A ISSUE THAT NO ONE CAN ANSWER IT SEEMS. WHEN I PLAY GAMES OTHER THAN ONES MICROSOFT PUT OUT SUCH AS HALO & AGE OF MYTHOLOGY. THE GAME WILL SIMPLY QUIT & I WILL WIND UP BACK @ THE DESKTOP. NO EVENTLOG ERROR IS REPORTED. I HAVE ALL THE MOST CURRENT UPDATES FOR MOBO, SOUNDCARD, VIDEOCARD & WINXP PRO. AS WELL AS ANY PATCHES FOR THE GAME TITLE. IT DID NOT ALWAYS DO IT. IT IS SORT OF A NEW ISSUE. SO I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS A UPDATE THAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE OR WHAT. I AM RUNNING NORTON AV 2004 PRO. I DISABLED IT & IT STILL CRASHES TO DESKTOP. THE ONLY SERVICES & STARTUP ITEMS THAT ARE SELECTED TO RUN ARE THE ONES THAT MUST REMAIN RUNNING FOR NORMAL SYSTEM OPERATION. LET ME KNOW IF MORE INFO IS NEEDED ABOUT MY HARDWARE. THANKS FOR THE ASSISTANCE.

What is wrong with you? Your name, all your posts, and your profile info is all in caps. Do you not know how to turn it off?

Sorry about the caps thing. I always just leave caps on. Don't know why just a habit i have. anyway, I am not OCing anything. My temps are all way within good parameters. I have a radeon 9800 XT, Sound Blaster Audigy Gmaer, Intel D865PERL mobo with a p4 2.4ghz 400FSB. 1 GB Centon dual channel ram. Because of the 400 FSB it is only running @ 233 MHZ instead of the 400MHZ with the 800fsb. Maxtor SATA 250 GB hdd. i do not think the CD-Rom drives are important here. The OS is WINXP PRO. I have a creative PC-CAM 550 hooked up, a logitech Extreme 3D pro joystick & a Mustek bearpaw 1200cs scanner all in the USB ports. that should be enough to go on. Any help would be great. Again sorry about the caps.

Sounds like you got the dreaded Caps Lock bug. Causes games to crash and such.

Hello,

I have tested the memory before & it always has checked out ok. I have seen in other message boards specific to games that people do have that happen quite a bit it seems. I have ran system checks on the whole system before & have never encountered a hardware malfunction either. I am thinking it has to be a driver or the os. that would be very difficult to diagnose considering how many drivers there are. Unless someone knows of a program that can find driver problems. Last but not least what is "PSU"?? what is that short for?? Thanks again for any help..

PSU = Power Supply Unit

The first thing I would try is removing all of those USB peripherals. One of them may causing a driver conflict.

You could try Driver Cleaner from here here,follow the instructions in the readme file and don`t forget to run it in safe mode,I would install latest 4.4s from ATi,so download those from

here .You can try disabling fastwrites in ATi Control Panel(smartgart tab) and BIOS to see if that improves stability.

Yep PSU= is short for "power supply unit",you should be using a good quality brand like Enermax,Antec,Sparkle etc....
