I am reading some of Mitnicks book The Art of Deception and I found a sidenote that was incredibly interesting. It talks about the Social Security Administration and how careless they are with some of their online material. Some of the information posted in these pages is downright scary. Why this information is available on the web is beyond me.

bah, guess you guys don't know anything about social engineering. Do yourselves a favor and pick up that book!
 
You want us to learn their rules and form numbers, etc, so we can sound official and fool someone/lead them into giving the missing piece that we want?

What's the problem with this? Shouldn't we be allowed to know how our public services work? Would you feel more secure if no one could tell what they were supposed to be doing, and you had to have a top secret clearance to read the operations manual?

Why would that manual possibly scare me?
