TimeLord-

You're certainly entitled to an opinion on the subject, even given the right to voice your opinion.

However, when did you attain the position of Judge and Jury - and get the right to slander anyone whose opinion differs from yours?

Please desist.

Tis true, the P4 platform today will not be the same in 6 months. Why you ask? Think about it.

One must remember that technological advances must sometimes break the boundaries of ugradability and compatibility...

Intel's must modify the P4 arcitecture for success.

Right now the only thing helping the P4 is memory bandwith and that is only because of the dual-channel RDRAM and not the P4 architecture itself.

wow and I thought I was bad! I guess you are a troll then.
I wouldn't say a P4 user was necessarily an idiot. imagine you were earning 100k+ a year. would it really hurt you to earn a P4 for the curiosity and unique performance attributes it has? it's relative values.

It may be truth but it's not nice to insult Intel-users anyway... Maybe P4-buyer only wants to play Quake3 on his machine, doesn't care about money and don't want to know much about computers at all ?

Despite agreeing with you that the P4 is an overpriced under performing system under todays standard, theres no way a I would support this childish trolling. Someone lock this thread, Mods?

I too agree that a P4 is a lousy choice for almost anybody, but you have taken it too far Timelord.

If the P-4 has nothing to do with the sudden success of Rdram finally showing its strength's than why wasn't it shown with the P-3 840 chipset ??? with the P-3 840 combo it was actually slower than with Sdram. What you said was so wrong it isn't even funny.

Timelord
Do you really think that Intel is the only company that releases a temperary Platform. How about the 4th Sdram paltform that now exist for the Athlon and that's not counting the DDR how are you going to upgrade to that ?? Besides there will be upgrades for the current platform to the very least 2 GHZ that will be released by Mid year and possibly beyond for the Current platform.

han888 good one LOL!! :)

hehehehe, just feel that some people dont have p4 system but they can say p4 is bad, how do they know? they just look a review from the web site and make a conclusion, intel is not stupid, they gain a lot of profit every year, if u say p4 is bad so it's mean u are more clever than intel engineer, i will give u a shake hand :)

just feel in this forum:

cpu <== a lot of amd
video card <== geforce card
ram <=== muskin ram
cd writer <== plextor
hard drive <=== IBM desktar
dvd <== pionneer

so dont even say in this forum:
amd is bad cpu
geforce is a bad card
plextor is a bad cd writer
etc
and forget to put 3dmark2000 :)

if u say that ............ ( must be lose in the arque )

timelord, maybe next time try to post some reasoning. "mine is good, your's is suck." is not an arguement. I have yet to see you give us cold hard facts.

I concur with others regarding the tone of the original post. Reasonable people can at least support their arguments with something beyond name-calling.

That said, I do have to agree with the original statment. Geesh, when you can put together a first class system with a 1.2 GH AMD processor and still get the same performance as a current P4 system for waaaaaay less money, why WOULD you choose otherwise? (Lunatics who want to pay a thousand $ for a few extra Quake FPS excluded.) How many of us (even those who make over $100k) desire to point at our computers and say "Look at my new P4 - I paid alot of money for a few FPS in Quake and video editing I'll never use"? The only thing I would be thinking at that moment is "what an idiot".

My understanding of the current P4 architecture is that there will be no upgrade path after about 6 months when Intel will introduce a different chipset, etc...... My bet is that Intel wanted to take the wind out of AMD's sails and rushed the P4 out to help shore-up the erosion in their market share.
