So here's the dilio.

I'm running an Athlon 1600 on WinXp w/ my VisionTek GF3 Ti 200. The driver I'm using is the 23.11 detonator. W/ 512 mb of Ram and a cable modem (latency of 40-70) i'm only getting 60 FPS (at 1024 resolution). Why??? Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

You could have a framerate cap. Use console commands fps_modem, or fps_lan to change.

Adam - should I simply type fps_lan, or do I need to type in some number? The person that was trying to help me before had me type something like fps_max or fps_max 100

CStroman - Is 60 good? I was at a Gateway store today and the guy there told me he's getting mid-70's. Another person w/ a slower processor and graphics card was saying he had higher too. I guess I was just assuming it should be better. Should I be happy w/ 60?

Thanks.

don't listen to them, you should be getting constant 99 fps, try turning vsync off or try putting fps_max 100.

fps_max works only in the single player of Half-Life. It does not effect multiplay. Make sure you have vsync off and if you're running at 60Hz, get your eyes checked. 60Hz would drive me nuts. I use 120Hz myself.

AdamK47 - 3DS:
fps_max DOES work in Multiplayer, get a clue before you post..

In CS, you can set fps_max to whatever you want between 20 and 100.. it is normal to set it to 100 (that's what everyone does).
Also make sure Vsync is off in your display properties/advanced/additional properties/opengl in there, set vsync to always off.

Vsync is when your fps are limited to whatever the refresh rate of your monitor is, sometimes when you turn it off, it causes tearing and horizontal lines. You should have vsync off to improve fps.

And change your refresh to at least 85Hz :)

I already had that "clue". It is not I that needs it.

The proof is in the pic.

As you can clearly see fps_modem is at 100, while fps_max is at 20, yet the framerate shows 98.

Perhaps the retail (aka n00b version) CS allows for that command. The mod version does not.

I have the mod version.. it works for me. I don't have proof but it's not like I'm going to bother putting it up :D

make sure Vsync is off using NVmax..
use OpenGL
type in CS console
cl_showfps 1 to show the fps at the top right corner
try fps_max 100

u should be getting 99 fps in most part of the game
