Only 15% performance difference (TNT2 m64 vs TNT2 Pro)?

I just setup 2 identical machines(Duron 700, K7T Pro2A, 128MB). The only difference between them is the VGA card. one is TNT2 m64 32MB, the other is TNT2 Pro 32MB. Both are generic brands. All latest drivers are installed. No other unnecessary softwares are installed. Everything use default settings. OS is win98se/DX7a.

When I run 3dmark2000 to benchmark them , the m64 gains 1766 marks, while the Pro gains 2015 marks, less than 15% increase. I'm expecting much more performance gain for the Pro card. Is this normal? Are there any utilities to check the VGA chip/memory clock? Anything I might miss/overlook?

The higher the res the bigger the difference is gonna be. That's pretty much it.

Do NOT ignore 3DMARK 2000.

If you are getting a crap mark, compared to others with similar system configurations, there IS something wrong.

I had a P3/700 with a TNT2ultra, 3500 3dmark2000.

YOu should at least be getting 3000 3dmark with the TNT2PRo

Check driver, AGP setting, also are you using 3dmark 1.1? Using Athlon optimisation?

3dmark2000 v1.1 is used. Everything is set at default, no optimazation of any kind.

The TNT2 Pro card( and the m64 as well) is a generic one. It only cost $50(vs$40 for the m64). I'm guessing (assuming I setup everything correct) that the Pro card used very low core and memory clock. So I want a utility to check the clock frequency fo the card.

I have TNT2 M64, I get 2009 3dMarks (1024x768@16bit). Have you set the ram timing to Auto? If you have the 1.8 BIOS, make sure that the K7 CLK_CTL in the K7T Pro 2-A's BIOS set to 'optimal'.

Maybe the TNT2 M64 and the Pro use different brands / quality memory, so this may affect the results.

If you are planning to o/c, I suguest using a program called TNTClk. I got my memory upto 160 MHz, and it gave a nice boost to 3dMark (about 2190ish).
Beoynd 160 MHz, the screen becomes choppy (with my memory).

The mobo was bought 2 days ago. Bios version 1.9

No o/c is intended, but want to check the real comparative performance of these 2 cards, I will setup about 2 dozen identical PCs next week.
