Online UK retailers

Theres a whole list of US and Canadian suppliers to choose from but what are some good online UK retailers?

Off the top of my head:

www.ebuyer.co.uk *1
www.dabs.com
www.scan.co.uk
www.komplett.co.uk *1
www.tekheads.co.uk
www.microdirect.co.uk
www.misco.co.uk
www.aria.co.uk
www.overclock *1
www.overclockers.co.uk *2
www.chillblast.co.uk *1
www.savastore.co.uk *2
www.novatech.co.uk

I'm not sure all the suffixes are correct - some like ebuyer are .com but .co.u you get sent there anyway.

This is by no means complete but from my memory some starting points:
*1 I'd recommend as generally good places to purchase
*2 Would avoid purchasing from - cowboy businesses

Just out of curiosity, why do you have a warning to avoid www.overclockers.co.uk? I've ordered plenty of things from these guys over the years and have never had a problem.

I had a HDD arrive DoA, sent it back and it took only 7 days between me sending it to get a new one back, no hassles.
I've never had a problem, ordered a few times over the last few years. But then there are people with bad experiences too.

Oh and an additional website to definitely bookmark is Quidco.com - basically a cashback affiliate website.

So buying from Dell means you can get upto another 6.5% off or Crucial another 10% off. You can combine these with special discount codes/deals eg at Crucial they constantly have a 4% discount - combine that with the 10% discount for a total 13.4% discount.

Indeed. Spent a couple of K's over the past few years from them. Fast delivery and great CS when I have had to call them.

Had a Sony DVDRW die on me after a lot of burning 😛. They sent me an upgraded version as the one I had wasn't in stock

Just *alot* of horror stories I've read all over the internet. Stuff includes poor customer services (inc. swearing at and slamming phone down on customers or just plain leaving the phone of the hook), awful returns policy (charging the customer 15% or so?), shipping out products just RMAed or broken, careless packaging and overall a complete contempt for anyone who is their customer. Oh and Nazi-esque attitudes on their forums at anyone expressing any negative comment - that's including about any poor service they have received.

That was in their worst days - they have meant to have cleaned up their act since but I've heard reports to the contrary.

Originally romulus2.com had a great feedback area to pretty much all the uk retail websites with a huge amount of comments from customers - a treasure troove of information of who was good and who to avoid. Overclockers was one listed as to avoid like the plague with *many* horror stories - some of the stories were just laughable horrific. Unfortunately, since then their feedback forum list and comment section has been removed and is meant to be under repair but has been like that for many months now.

*shrug* seems to me like buying from them you end up taking a huge risk. I never understood why they were so popular among the enthusiast community (their name?) or why they have so many proponents as they are a cowboy business - their website screams of amateur coybowism. Maybe they'd be ok to purchase from if the manufacturer backs up the warranty directly (LCD screens) but even then giving them money and business is up for being a moral question - or at least a question over whether it is something you should be encouraging.

Interesting. Me and my friends have always had great service from them. Their packaging for my stuff has been fantastic imo. Everything well packaged and with lots of protection.

I'll get stuff from them as they have great prices for stuff I get and have always been fast on delivery.

It's all about personal experience IMO.
Had a DOA stick of RAM, returned no problems, had a router which died after a while, got it sorted too.
Never had a problem with them or with returns over 5~10 orders, but you have to remember if you buy some stuff (Ebuyer Value) its not going to be top quality.
Also ordered a print head from them and they shipped 2 seperately by accident, and only billed for one.
But there will be both good and bad reports from almost any seller.

Some places, like http://www.aria.co.uk also have real shops (they are based in Manchester) so you can see them in person (if you live near there).
I'm not sure of anyone else with physical presence (there's one in Scotland somewhere, but can't think of the website address).
