Online storage

A little off topic I think but I wasn't sure which forum to put this under...

I'm in need of online storage space. It's for a collaboration with some friends and I want a central dumping point for everything that doesn't rely on anyones PC or internet connection (IE, I know I could set up something on mine, but I don't wanna hassle with the bandwidth being eaten up).

* Doesn't need to be a website
* FTP access would be preferable as multiple ppl will be accessing the space and I want to be able to control access if people change
* Only need maybe a gig or 2
* Fast speed and high uptime preferred as these will be a few large files

I'm assuming some web hosting site would be the best bet, but anyone have any suggestions on a good one vs. cheap one or know of any deals?

Update - I found something that I think will work, but if anyone has anything they use that they think is good, feel free to list it.


I am assuming either way I need to register a domain name, or can I use some sort of dynamic dns name? (Fuzzy on this).

Dropbox offers up to 2GB for free.

idrive does too, i've had goo luck with theirs

if you feel like referring yourself via emails you can get 12gb

EDIT: its 5gb free at idrive. they have a client for selecting what to backup thats pretty nice, my documents go there nightly, it will wake my pc up from being asleep to do it

Thanks for the input. I will definitely keep idrive in mind. I found a place called Steeker that gives 1GB free. Not much, but will do for now, the interface is pretty nifty and easy for non computer types (like the ones that I'm working with) so we'll see how this goes 🙂
