I'm looking to buy some stocks. which online stock broker should i use... i dont want any advise from the i just want cheap fast trades. if anyone thinks this is a stupid idea i'm up to hear your oppion. Also i was wondering what people thought were promising stocks.

if you're goin to depost like $25,000, then Brownco is good, $5 trades. but they have that minimum deposit (might be 50k)

It depends on how much you've got to invest, how often and how much you want to trade, how much you want to pay, etc.

As someone already said, you might look into the comparisons on Fool.com

They've also got an article on how to choose an online broker.

Note that they're not comparing ALL online brokers, just a few; but it might be a good place to start if you're at square one.

I use to read Fool.com religiously back in the day when they were an entirely free site. That was back in the day when my $10K was up to $25K... *sigh*

BTW, my first online broker was Ameritrade. I then switched over to Datek... which then got bought by Ameritrade.

I just happen to be in the market for a new broker myself, after Trading Direct has been hanging on to my funds for more than a week without letting me do anything with them. Unfortunately, their account information gives you no indication of what funds are available (it's been listing said funds as being in the account for said week) or if they've placed any holds on them--they just cancel all your orders twenty minutes after you place them and provide no information on why they were cancelled.

I also have to give them a special award for the most verbally abusive and unpleasant "phone support" staff of any company I have ever dealt with. (And if you ask to speak to their supervisor, everyone I've talked to has said, "I'm the supervisor.")

So far Scottrade looks interesting. Anyone have experience with them?

Sharebuilder. $4 per buy, or $12/month for unlimited buys. $16 per sell. Also, they have no account minimums!! It's pretty good, I like it a lot. It's really easy to transfer money in/out and make trades.

As far as stocks go, Edge Petroleum (EPEX), Oracle (ORCL), and Nortel (NT).

You might want to mention that for $4 you ARE NOT getting real time trades. The trades go through once a week.

Yeah that's true, sorry forgot to mention it. It's still a good deal I think... a few days shouldn't make a difference if you're investing for any appreciable length of time.

Sounds like a good deal if you don't care what price you get, which is sort of crazy imo.

Ameritrade is the best, i have been using it for 4 years now. You can buy unlimited stocks for $11.99 and they have extended hours trading too, nice features, great streamer, fast trading, nice customer support, and if you manage to have 10 trades per month you will be invited to Apex group where you can buy and sell the same day and buy again. You don;t have to have $25000.00 in your account to do day trading, you can have margin accounts too which will also let you do day trading.

Interactive Brokers costs as little as $1 for 100 shares and is the best platform/execution broker out there. They do have a $10 monthly minimum, but they are the best for anyone that makes trades regularly.
