Online sources for high quality cable equipment?

I'm at my gf's house and they're reworking some of their cabling. Their splitters that they have are the typical cheap splitters you get in the small section of RadioShack, and their cable modem is loosing connection here and there due to the distance. I would like to rework some of the stuff using some different splitters (Would be two between the outside line and the cable modem, I wish I could do better than that, but I dont have the funds or time to do an RJ-45 run from the cable modem by placing it in the basement near where the cable comes in.)

So what I'm asking where I can go online to get some splitters that are the 3dBi loss rather than the 7 and 10dBi loss splitters thats in their home currently.

I didn't know if this belonged in Home Theatre or OT because I'm just asking about online sources. If it needs moved a mod is plenty free to.

Thanks guys 🙂

You should be fine with some 1GHz splitters. The cable modem should be on the FIRST splitter on the 0db end, is this the case with your setup?

I wish. It goes outside line --> 4-way 7dBi loss splitter --> 2-way 7dBi loss splitter --> Cable Modem.

None of the splitters have a 0dBi end. They're all unfortunately 7dBi loss connectors on each and every single out port on each port. They're just cheap bronze-colored Philips splitters (Not the thick heavy ones, just the light ones with a black label on the front). I couldn't find any decent splitters to replace them in stores here, so I was looking around for an online source but didn't know of any places that were reputable.

I can't lessen the number of splitters in the way. If I had my way I'd put the cable modem downstairs on the 0dBi side of a 2-way splitter, run an 8-way splitter off the other out of the 2-way, and run Cat 6 to a switch and just run ethernet jacks to all the walls. But I dont have the money, time, or access to do it. So the cable modem has to be on one of the end nodes of the cable network unfortunately.

I bought an active amplifier over at cabletvamps.com as well as demarcation box. They also have a forum that they routinely answer questions for.

The best way to run is to have each cable run directly to the amplifier.
