I picked up a set of wheels that had staggered tires. I cant run them because of my AWD system. tire sizes are 235/40/18 and 265/40/18. my stocks are 215/55/17

the tire diameter of the 265/40/18 is almost the same as my stock. I mounted the rears on and no lights. but i need a 235/45/18 for the first so everything will have the same rolling diameter. tire thread is about 60% on all 4 tires. I really dont want to just scrape them. So i'm looking for a pair of 235/45/18 used at about 50-70% thread to make my car happen and the speedo to be right.

craiglist doesn't have what i need. ebay guys want what it would cost new. a new pair is roughly $300 or less. I'm looking to pay about 175$ for a used pair.

Why not check local tire shops for used tires. I don't really know of any online sites to buy used tires.

^ mainly because the speedo will be off.

235/40/18 = 25.40 in diameter

235/45/18 = 26.32 in diameter

It is going to be off no matter what.

Stock size = 118.25
235/40 = 93.6
235/45 = 105.75

So get the 235/40 and have your spedo adjusted with the money saved.

please tell me what are these numbers you are giving me... maybe you know something that i dont know.

i ran my numbers on 1010tires.com

215/55/17 | 235/40/18 |235/45/18

overall diameter is 26.31 | 25.40 | 26.32

Circumference 82.65 | 79.79 | 82.68

Revs per mile 790.5 | 818.8 | 790.2

Acutal speed 60mph speedometer 62.1 | 59.9

I see what you gave me. you gave me ACTUAL SIDEWALL HEIGHT. Which is 55 on stock and 45 on the tire i want and then 40 on the tire you suggest, of course the sidewall height will be diffrence but sidewall alone doesn't do much. its the numbers i posted up. clearly the numbers are all very close and you see that if you ran 235/40 on the program it will tell you right off the bat NO WAY. Yea its a good cheap solution because it is more popular but it doesn't work for me.

1inch = 25.4MM

the numbers I gave are MMs. So...

17" = 431.8mm
18" = 457.2mm

So your 17" wheel with a 215/55 = 668.3mm

A 18" wheel with a 235/40 = 644.4
A 18" wheel with a 235/45 = 668.7

So the 235/45 is closer but the differance is so small % wise you will probable not notice it. Also I have seen 2 different tires with the same measure be a different true size. So the differeance could be bigger or smaller depending on the maker. So you can;t go by the raw numbers on the side of the tire anymore when it is this close.

Now if the price was about the same and fit was not a problem then I would also go with the 235/45. But since you may have rub issues, side to side, and the price is alomst double i would go for the 235/40.

I put on a different size on my CTS as the factory size cost more then dropping down from a 55 to a 50 series tire.
