hey guys,

i'm not sure if this belongs here, but i couldn't find a suitable category for it.

my friend's trying to start a business and he was wondering if i can give him a few tips about credit cards and ssl.

i know for ssl, u'll need to purchase a certficate from http://www.thawte.com or http://www.verisign.com to look official with https://www.mysite.com or u can share it with someone who already has a certificate by using their ssl certifcate @ https://www.theirsite.com/mystorename/

as for credit card transactions, i wasn't sure exactly how e-tailers do it. i was wondering which ones are compatible with your own ssl certificate. i've seen others have to be transferred to their website. my friend wants a credit card service where he can have https://www.mysite.com/ordersubmit/ (like the most common stores, ie. bestbuy staples compusa) where u enter the credit card info and everythign else on his own site and not on a forwarded credit card service site.

to make things simpler, i want something that'll say "Krunk's Store" on the credit card statement and not some credit card service.

if anyone has any input, ur help is really appreciated.

thanks!

Look into "payment gateways," such as http://www.authorizenet.com and http://www.verisign.com (their websites also have a lot of useful info about online payment in general). You'll also need a merchant account from a bank that supports the gateway.

The way they work is that you set up your website however you want. When the user enters their CC number, you POST it to the payment gateway. How certificates need to be handled depends on the gateway.
