Is the turnaround for these online rent dvd plans worth it? Meaning do you get the dvds in the mail quickly enough to take advantage of it, or should you just stop by the local blockbuster and pay for the unlimited dvd monthly rental plan?

An email from my buddy :

"I was thinking about joining but just wondered if
their turn around time is quick or if its slow.. like
do you get a DVD every 2-3 days? or it takes a few
weeks?

Netflix is $18/mo for 3 out at a time..

blockbuster is $15/mo 3 out at a time.. + 2 email
coupons for 2 instore rentals a month.. sounds pretty
cool unless they are slow and you only get like 10 or
so movies a month..

if thats the case.. I might as well get the $20/mo for
3 out at a time in store (walk into the store... pick
out 3 dvds... show them your month pass and pay
nothing other than rental fee... watch them.. return..
and get 3 more for free)... on my way home I pass by a
blockbuster.. so maybe if the mail order ones are
slow.. I might do this... I figure I go to work like
20 sum days/month... so 20 x 3 = 60 movies for
$20/mo... not bad.. and if I did some weekends.. say
25 days/mo.. thats 75 movie rentals for like $20..

anyway let me know if you've had any of the online
mail dvd rental programs and if turn around (when they
ship you dvds) is quick..

asking my friends and co-workers it seems like a mixed
bag depending on what dvd you want.. w/ the popular
stuff taking a little longer... "

Well I just started blockbuster. I received my first 3 movies within a few days of signing up. I sent each one back the next day that I got it. Waiting on more. 3 days and counting.

Your turn around time depends on how far you live away from the distribution center. I use Netflix and I live in the same city as a distribution center so it takes 3 days (1 day mail out, 1 day wait, 1 day mail back) to get my dvds. I tried Blockbuster for a trial basis and their distribution center was 300 miles away. It seemed like I would only get 3 movies every week. So look up their distribution centers and if they are too far away then do the store rentals.

The big reason I do online is because they have a lot more selection, especially TV series.

Netflix is much better than your local BB if you like TV shows, indie films, and foriegn films & TV (BBC, anime). If you love the Hollywood comedies and movies, might as well go with local BB.
