Online poker players...

So with the huge boom of online poker, the the countless stories of people knowing someone who knows someone that makes 10k a month playing poker online, Im curious... is there anyone here who actually can make a decent living (enough to survive without a job) by playing poker online?

Also, on a related subject, do you guys actually trust the online sites? I'll tell ya from personal experience it seems that some of the craziest crap happens online. For instance, in tournaments when the bubble comes around it seems like the lowstack ALWAYS catches cards and doubles up. There have been rumors that on Pokerstars they 'rig' it so that the new players will catch cards more often giving them the taste of winning, and then when they do lose a little they will feel they just got unlucky one time( since they had won previously) and will deposit more money. I doubt there is any truth to this, but who knows?

I know a guy who has won £10k in a year.

I played yesterday and today.

I was up $69 from yesterday. One 3rd finish and a money table. Then in the morning of today I was down $60 from my 'initial' start. I came 1st in a table tournament and I was up $88. Played 3 tournaments and I am down but a measly $15 profit :p. It is entertainment and nothing serious for me. If I keep breaking even and had a little left for more then it is

Pretty sure that it's not rigged. As to making a living I wouldn't know. I have not played for money. I am sure there are people making a living playing. The secret besides knowing how to play, is understanding stupidity and making it work for you.

I make a fair amount of money, but not enough to quit my day job.

Online poker isn't rigged or crazy, you just play a LOT more hands than you would in a real life situation, so you see a lot more 'crazy' hands, and they stand out so you remember them.

I quit my job about a year ago, a crappy restaurant job that had me on my last nerve. Since then I have lived off of savings and poker. I wouldn't go as far to say "professional", but I have definitely won or made the final table in many many MTT's. I would estimate my winnings to be just under 30k, the bulk of which was won recently in a not so conventional online tournament.

I wouldn't recommend this type of lifestyle to anyone, but for myself it has provided a nice temporary means of income.

edit: I recently moved to Wilmington, NC anyone know of some friendly local games? ;)
