So I finally have my digital camera, and I've got a few gbs of pictures from last years vacation and some others. Fiancee has been pointing out that we have some nice picture frames on the wall, and none of our own pictures in them, so its time to print some.

Where's the best place for this? I walked around and counted 3 4x4 frames, 4 4x6 frames and an album of 50 4x6 photos(good for ireland pics from vacation)

It's a matter of quality. They use better paper and processing techniques. I can tell the difference when I get them. If you are just looking to print snapshots, then Walmart (Costco is far better if you have one nearby) will do. If you find there is something worth printing over and above that, then Mpix.

I have a HP photosmart 385

It's pretty good and the Ink isn't too bad either.
Especially if you buy it at staples with their coupons and such.

Nothing will be cheaper than the B&M/Mail order printers...still I have an arsenal of quality photo paper here and good ink for my i960 canon.

Printing professionally is mostly in the paper. Many photomats cheap out on the paper and while they look good from the start they don't last esp if handled.

Costco for me. Their pricing rocks; no minimum quantities, I can order prints online and pick-up in-store (or have them mailed).

Print Prices
4x6 prints 0.17 ea
5x7 prints 0.39 ea
8x10 prints 1.49 ea
8x12 prints 1.49 ea
Wallet set 0.39 ea
8x8 1.49 ea
11x14 2.99 ea
12x12 2.99 ea
12x18 2.99 ea
16x20 9.99 ea
20x30 9.99 ea

Look at their price for 20x30 prints; most places charge between $20-$25 for that size.

They use better paper and color correction? I know I have a few nice pictures that are a bit bleached out because I was shooting into the sun and im too lazy to learn post processing. I imagine they're not going to fix that though.

It depends on how far off your pics are. They will do retouching, however that is an extra charge. You can always check with them. Another thing to consider is that their tech staff will mail (upon request) a B+W and color print to you. Why that's helpful is that you can adjust your monitor to match them as closely as possible. Their printer equipment is calibrated to match those prints. While it isn't a replacement for hardware calibration of your monitor, it's a damn sight better than hoping your print matches your monitor output.

I know, I read it. It lists 7-8 sites but doesn't say a thing about them, and it didnt seem like the Resource thread was a place to ask questions so I started a new thread. and it seems like threads aren't kept on file long in that forum and I want to be able to post my experiences after I get the photos

Threads are kept around here just fine. You just need to change some settings in your profile to show the older threads, but they are here.

I've always had good experiences with Costco. They use good FujiFilm paper that lasts for years. I have been severely underimpressed by the Kodak Photostations in CVS/Walmart/etc...they are expensive and the quality isn't there.
