Online mapping software (mapquest and the like) sucks NUTS. At least for me.

Seriously I've spent god knows how long lost based on amazon.com directions before. It generally gets the highway right, so you'll make it from city to city, but when you get close to the location forget it.

And USPS I used their website to find a place close to work. I couldn't find the first one and the second location I could barely find.

Then there was compassbank. Either it was me, or they sent me to the middle of a decrepit neighborhood in the projects. Couldn't find that bloody brance.

And fedex today. COULD NOT find either of the two close locations based on their stinking directions.

Navigation isn't that hard. It's 2D and streets are supposed to be named (often it's hard to find a street name though), but damnit if these online directions screw me almost every freaking time.

So does anybody else have a problem with these? I think I need a GPS navigation computer in the car, because then at least I'd know I'm driving around the right area.
 
True Mapquest doesn't get things exactly right, but it's worked close enough to get me to the general area where I want to be - it's only gotten me lost 2 times out of lots so I guess I can't complain too much.
 
Heh...I make my own directions at work, it's what we do 😛.

We have all the data the mapping sites have plus more.

Allthough, when I have to use the online mapping sites from home, mappoint.msn.com has proven to be pretty accurate for me.
 
Mapquest has failed EVERY SINGLE TIME for me. It's made me use nonexistent streets, go the wrong way downtown, or just plain take me to the wrong area completely.

Mapblast -- now Mappoint is much better.

I also like Streets and Trips.

I have Mappoint on CD. 🙂

It's installed on my Tablet PC. it's AWESOME.

I've used mapquest for a couple years and it hasn't failed me once. I'm guessing at least part of this is due to me being in Seattle and major metro areas having more data about em.

I'll give mappoint a try.

One thing about directions is that they can often be TOO accurate. As in a street that makes a slight bend to the left. On the directions it's "A STREET becomes 99TH AVE 0.01 miles.... 99TH AVE becomes HOSSENPFEFFER LN 0.02 miles..... HOSS LN becomes SHAKE-A-BOOTY CT 0.01 miles" instead of just saying "Stay straight"
 
I use mapquest alot...i try to compare the map to another online one if I am going somewhere I have no idea on.

The worst that's happened was I was directed on a path where the road did not connect too. I could see my destination 50' away but a canal was in the middle. It was about a 5 mile path to get back around though....I think that was to some theme park in Orlando, maybe Sea World from a girl's house I was seeing on the weekends in Apopka Florida.
