Online gaming and ZoneAlarm

I installed ZoneAlarm (freeware firewall software, typical install, security at highest level) last night and played Mechwarrior 4 online on Microsoft's "Zone."

The game seems to run much slower (framerate), as if ram/resources are being gobbled up.

Any tips on how to fine-tune ZoneAlarm or recommendations on other free software firewalls?

Thanks in advance...

I had the same problem different game, I am curious to see if anybody has any suggestions on this one. I'm not sure if I have zone alarm configured correctly either.

Check to see if there is a new ZA since there was a new ZA Pro that improved speed quite a bit.

The freeware ZA is the older series. I guess you have to pay for the additional features and speed of the new 3.0 PRO version.

Uninstalled ZoneAlarm and installed the free Tiny Firewall last night.

Tiny seems more nimble, and doesn't seem to have as much appetite for my resources.

Lemme have a coupla' days ta kick da tires though....

I've had much better luck with tiny now, switched over a couple of days ago. I agree with cocytus, seems to hog less resources. I did have a harder time configuring this firewall though.
