I currently have a cable modem and Linksys 4 port router, and I tested it today with and without the router. The test came in at 1.962 down, 362 up at the dslreports site.

I'm having a hard time staying connected while playing games online. I continue to get disconected constanly when playing various PC games, and It's even worse when playing games online w/PS2. I contacted the ISP (roadrunner) and they tell me it's Sony' servers, or the other gaming servers. Sony told me it was the ISP, or possibly the cable modem. The ISP had me run some tests (pinging) and said the modem was fine, although I had 10% packet loss.

I decided to go ahead and sign up for DSL (qualified today for 768 down, 178Up, and maybe as high as 1.5 down and 384 up - slower than cable) and compare cable and DSL.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.:disgust:

For Gaming, I would suggest Cable over DSL. Your problem seems more like a local problem if you are getting packet loss. Try another NIC. Could also be the network cables. Make sure they are quality CAT5 and no wires are showing near the tips. That can cause loss. Just a thought.

Are you using a firewall of any type? That will cause you to get disconnected during a game.

Uhh, the firewall may or may not. I've notice sometimes similar behaviour with certain hardware routers, but those have no firewalling capabilities. I've also had flawless access through a P/233 running Slackware as the firewall. Try hooking your system directly into the cable modem and see if you still have the issue. If not, then chances are good the linksys is at fault.

Uhh, a Firewall WILL cause you to get disconnected on SOME games. I could have been a little more specific, but it is accurate.

I tried running straight to the cable modem, and had no luck. My cables seem to ba okay - about 4-5 years old though - (I bought them pre-made). I have zone alarm as well - and I leave it off when I'm gaming. I've made sure the XP firewall is off. The only thing I haven't done yet is to try another NIC. I'm currently using on board ethernet (any thoughts).

But that still doesn't explain the problem I'm having with the PS2. Any sugestions specifically for the PS2?

Thanks, and thanks in advance:confused:
