Online Game Lag

Hey my friend lives in the caribbean and his connections all good until he hits an online game then he lags like a mofo and when he tries to use a program like teamspeak to talk it sounds like he stutters because of his connection he has a 512kb dsl connection so he shouldn't have a problem, please try and get back at me, we've been looking for a solution forever.

Wow, that's a long sentence.
How's his ping? Have you done a tracert to some servers to see how many hops are involved and how responsive each one is?

What does " his connections all good until he hits an online game" that mean exactly?

He can browse ok but his gaming ping sucks?

Exactly he lags like a mofo when he plays online games but surfing and downloading is fine.. and when he plays an online game he has like a 30% packetloss.. i dont get it but when he doesnt play online games he has like 0% packetloss.

If the server is very far away, he is going to get alot of packet loss. I don't imagine there are too many good servers in teh caribbean.

I fixed it.. it was teamspeak he had the bandwidth set too high and a lot of funky settings... he had zero packetloss.. sounded clear and had a steady 150 ping on the game. Thanks for trying guys

150 is still imo a high ping for online gaming. 100 or less is ideal. when he logs onto a server he should check its ping. a low ping server will produce less lag.

its the hops between his connection and the server.... going from the caribbean to nj will require a lot of hops.
