she knows what I look like (yet still wants to meet!) and I know what she looks like..

I think I will have a drink before dinner... Now how to have dinner without spelling crap all over myself.. yes, I am a nerd!
yet still wants to meet, hahaha.

Like everyone is saying,

you are getting nervous over nothing here. Just be cool, take her out places, show where the popular stuff is.

THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO BE NERVOUS ABOUT IS IF YOU LIED TO HER ABOUT SOMETHING.

She's hot, you're gonna be stuttering, stumbling a lot and probably have a perpetual woodie :)

you say she is a very cool "kid". is there a big age difference?

nope, she's 21, i'm 24.

Give me her number, I'll surprise her, send her a text and tell her I know you, maybe put in a good word :p

I've seen your pic and she'd probably fall head over heels for you.

You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault

LOL I was going to suggest that but I wasn't quite sure how to word it.

Make sure you don't meet her with a cocked and loaded gun.

no, I am not asking if you are rich. I just wanted to know what industry.

Got it... She's a film student and I was a film student so that's our "tie" as far as industries go... But my job has nothing to do with film.

You could ask her.. if she wanted to "star" in an impromptu film ... with you, when she gets there. Preferably later on that night, after a few drinks. Some women can really get ...erm, "excited" about that. Plus, those lips of hers, she's no innocent-minded midwesterner ("farmer's daughter") if she lives in London and went to HS in Paris. I have a feeling that you two will be enjoying your evening together, regardless. You lucky dog you. :)

(Or is that what you are really afraid of - that she'll be interested in more than just purely casual conversation?)

OK, I did wear contacts in all of the pictures she's seen of me but I usually wear glasses - does that count as a lie? Hah, I'm a little tipsy right now and am not very nervous. She actually called me as soon as her flight landed - that hints to me that she's as excited as I am... I said that I'd get out of work at 5 and she said "see you at 5:01" and.. and.. she likes me! i don't know why but, she likes me! I'm excited guys and thank all of you for your kind words and wishes. If it goes well then, go me... If it doesn't go well then, well, go me anyways because I had the balls to ask a very pretty and sweet girl out...

Try not to think about it too much, remember you guys already have a lot in common, just try your best to relax and have a good time. Think of it this way, she's probably more nervous than you are. You're in your element. She's the one that's totally new to the area. Take her to some cool places and have a drink or two to relax.

Hope it goes well. Good Luck!

So, through odd circumstances (a job posting I posted online) I started talking to this girl from London. Very cool kid into many of the things that I'm into. Film, the simpsons, similar taste in music, etc. We've been talking for a while, online on on the phone, and now she's visiting my area to check out a local college... I invited her out for dinner and a movie and she accepted and asked me to give her a little tour of new york as well.. so... i'm just very, very nervous... this is not a brag thread - i'm a spazz and did not earn anything, nor is she an "online girlfriend." I'm just sharing and would appreciate some advice on how not to feel so nervous, other than 'get drunk!'
Jeeezuz! Freedomsbeat212, it's time you grow some balls! Stop wallowing in self-pity! Why bother dating if you're too scared to even be yourself. Geeez!I gave you the benefit of doubt with your past excuses, but it's gotten too much! It's one thing to be soft-spoken and cool, but being wimpy doesn't work! I hardly know of any women that appreciate wimps!

P.S. Why do you call her a kid? That sounds rather strange for someone you are interested in.

why doesn't she have a RL b/f?

That's a great question - she's funny, spunky, cute (in my opinion) and LOVES the simpsons. In fact, that's how I had the nerve to ask her out for dinner - she started singing the "bartman" on the phone and I said that I just can't not ask her out since she's such a geek... I think one reason she's single is because she travels a lot...

I guess I'm nervous because, yes, I *like* the girl but I'm realistic and know that trying to be smooth with a girl who lives on the other side of the atlantic is futile. I also want her to have a fun time and I don't want to bore her...

That sounds about right. She is probably worried about meeting you, too, so break the tension in the first few moments and smile, laugh, and don't worry about "the right" thing to say.

Yeah dude, just go with what you know. I flew out to San Diego a while back and met up with some people I met online. It was a little awkward at first, but it was definitely the best vacation I ever had.
She'll like you for you, unless you're a closet axe-wielding homocidal psychopath bent on killing the teens who kicked you out of your lakeside cabin. Even then, if she's really a friend she'll look past that and help out your mindbending schemes for ungodly torturous revenge.
