I need to receive quite a few faxes for the next month or two. I need more than the free level on efax but their pricing and commitment required are a bit too much for my faxing needs. I may stick around with a company for a year if it was affordable, but can't justify $15 a month.

Any suggestions?

Yes, yes, I've heard of google - I just like personal recommendations

I use RingCentral - $9.99 a month. No complaints here, have been using it for more than a year now, and never a problem.
I got a true (800) for free with their promotion when I signed up. Also, if you want to receive faxes from Alaska and Hawaii on your (800) you have to enable this in the config settings under your account on their website. These incoming calls cost a bit more. For international faxes, you have to call in and talk to their support to enable it, but a 5-minute call was all it took.

i think you can use your land line ( if you have one ) with a 56k fax modem.
Unless the OP lacks a landline, then that'd be a problem.
