online beginner texas hold 'em poker stategy sites

I'm playing a no limit, low blind texas hold em poker tourny tonight with 5 other friends. Where is a good site to go to check the odds of the hand that is dealt to me to decide whether to stay in for the flop and stuff like that?

That site has some decent articles for beginners. Just play tight generally, but when you have a hand, don't be afraid to bet the hell out of it. Just yesterday I had some guy just call my raise heads up when he had the nuts. Don't be that guy.

Just remember, one of the better ways to win is to try and bluff on smaller value hands when you have a decent hand, even if the odds aren't really really good. Other wise, people will learn that you only bet when you do IN FACT have something than can win, and the only way you'll get them to put more money in (so you can take it all!) is to trick them into thinking you have squatt. If you only play the hands you have a really good chance of winning, they're going to bleed you dry.

Now, this is a bad strategy for casinos, but for a few bucks between friends, pretty good.

(This is all in my experience, not poker expertise.)

Most importantly, don't bet assuming four street and the river are going be the card you need to win, because the odds are greatly against you.

I like that concept. I don't like to lose on purpose, but if you have a so-so hand and the pot is small I can see where it might be smart to stay in and flip your cards over to reveal that you bluffed b/c it could pay off later on a large pot...interesting

Oh yeah, if everyone folds, or if you fold, don't show your hand.
