Online backup worth it? Do I need it?

I'm trying out Crashplan+ at the moment. I have a desktop and a laptop.
The desktop is connected to my external HD.

I'm backing both pcs up to the external HD, and I am wondering whether it is worth paying $6 for unlimited online backup for my computers.

the files are just photos, music and documents, just normal home stuff.

So, do u think online backup is worth it?
And they automatically refund u the unused months if u cancel

I use the free 5GB from Sugar Sync. That's enough to let me backup the truly critical stuff that I trust not even to an external hard drive.

Everything else goes on the external.

I backup my family pics online, all 166 gigs worth. I used to save it to a secondary hard drive but it was a pain keeping the main folder and the backup folder up to date.

These family pics are the most important items on my computer and if my house burnt down, or my computer was stolen, or if perhaps lightning stuck my house and toasted my computer, I would loose thousands of pics and videos that could never ever be replaced.

So I pay Mozy $55 a year to be my off-site back up of my family pics and vids and a couple of more important items.

If what is on your computer isn't that important, I wouldn't pay the money to store off-site.
