I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I've been experiencing w/ my receiver. I have an Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver that works fine except when I turn it on first thing in the morning after it's been off all night.

When I turn it on I get load static sound and picture on tv is fuzzy and rolling. This goes on for a few minutes when the static and picture roll stops except picture isn't has sharp but eventually that also corrects it's self. This static sound is like when your radio isn't quite turned into the radio station. I've also check to see if I get the same result by turning on the radio after being turned off over night and same results with exception of the tv picture of course. :p

I've checked all of the connection and nothing is loose. I haven't changed anything. Any ideas on what it could be or suggestions of what else to check or do.

Thanks.

Take the top off and blow it out with compressed air can. Probably chocked with dust and needs it's yearly cleaning. Tho, that is just my guess since it's probably not heat related since it does it when cold.

Sounds like HDMI handshaking issues. Contact Onkyo, or your TV manufacturer for a firmware update.

I had a similar problem with a bad HDMI cable (you would touch it, and it would go green and sound like static.) If it's not your HDMI cable, it's just DRM causing you headaches.

The SR606 (I'm also assuming the 706) had an issue with the HDMI board. It was placed upside down, directly over some heat generating components and over time the heat would damage the pcb causing handshaking issues and then complete failure. Not really much to do unless it's in warranty.

yea known issue in a lot of Onkyo AVRs. My 876 does the same thing but w/o the audio part. Most of the time, it only does it briefly (less than a second), but on the rare occasions when it does go on longer, it goes away if I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in. Apparently it's a sign of the HDMI board crapping out in the AVR.

I love this receiver, but my next receiver probably wont be an Onkyo. I wanna give Yamaha a try next

Thanks everyone. I will try all the recommendations, of course the unit is no longer under warranty. If I can't resolve I guess I'll need to purchase a new unit. :(

Give them a call anyway. You'd be surprised how many companies are trying to improve their customer service these days. ^_^

well known issue with the HDMI boards.

See if you can find a replacement board off e-bay and then wire in a small fan to move the heat off the HDMI PCB so it doesnt happen again.

i got my refurb 876 repaired under warranty when one of the speaker terminals stopped working. They paid for shipping both ways, and shipping couldn't have been cheap since the AVR weighs 51 lbs. Yea it was a big inconvenience because I had to ship it back twice (2nd time around UPS damaged the front door during shipping), but for the price I paid for it, I can't really complain.

But if I had paid full price for it, I'd be slightly ticked off
