http://www.amazon.com/ONKYO-TX...qid=1211337815&sr =1-2

I was in the market for a new receiver, and this one looks to be an outstanding value for the money. The black one can be found for $450, but you can get the silver one for $399 if you use the TigerDirect link at Amazon, or Amazon is selling it directly for $407.19 w/free shipping.

This receiver is well received at www.avsforum.com. It has 4 HDMI inputs, upscales analog to 1080i, and a lot more.

I'm willing to buy a silver one and save some serious cash...

Edit: Here is a short blurb taken from Onkyo's web site:

As part of the second generation of Onkyo high-definition-capable receivers, the TX-SR606 is at the forefront of affordable home theater. The key is to have the most capable version of HDMI. The TX-SR606 provides high-definition video and audio processing for four source components?another first for Onkyo at this level. From Blu-ray Disc players to gaming consoles and cable/satellite boxes, you have everything in the digital realm covered. Apart from 1080p video, the TX-SR606 can upscale all video signals to 1080i, regardless of the connection, for output via HDMI. Onkyo?s own RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) also gives you inter-operability with the displays and playback components from other leading brands. And with an expanded version of Audyssey?s room correction technology, the TX-SR606 maintains the fullness of surround sound audio quality at low volume levels. The TX-SR606 offers all-round excellence rarely seen at this level.

Special Features

HDMI v1.3a Repeater (4 inputs, 1080P compatible)
HDMI Video Upconversion
1080i Upscaling powered by Faroudja DCDi Edge
TrueHD, DTS-HD Decoding

If this thing had 1080p upscale and 3 component inputs, it'd be absolutely perfect. Not sure why they stuck with 1080i this time (albeit your HDTV should do a decent job of upscaling 1080i to 1080p).

Why do you feel it is important for the receiver to upscale to 1080p?

I wouldn't trust any avr to upconvert to 1080p. If you trust your avr more than your tv, then you should really replace your tv.
As long as it passes thru 1080p, you're all set.

It does dts ma as well, wow. This plus ps3 and you're all set. Onkyo makes very good stuff.
I have an integra and an onkyo and they both work great. My denon 2807 recently decided it wont work with component video anymore, i think its being an input diva, only likes hdmi.

They charge you 50 extra to get it in black, but silver isnt a problem since my rack isnt visible. Very tempting....

Whoops, looks like they took down both the TD and Amazon links for this price. Now it's back to $450+.

That was fast...

The only missing feature is pre-outs (for those who want to use external power amps). Have to step up to a SR705 to get those (or step sideways to a Yamaha RX-V663)

That $400 price certainly was interesting... but gone when I checked yesterday.

Now the required Onkyo Receiver notice: as in all prior Onkyo units I've looked into, digital audio input will -NOT- be available at Zone-2 speakers [& I still don't grasp why they build it that way]. Also, as I read the manual, if you even turn on the Zone-2 output your Zone-1 (main) speakers will be limited -- enhanced sound options will be disabled [which I never noticed on prior models, but maybe it was there]. I didn't read closely enough to be sure if that means only DTS-type enhancements, or surround sounds.

'Don't know why I like Onkyo so much as their handling of Zone-2 always upsets me!
