Should be noted that I just ordered this and haven't seen anything about my $20 cash back yet...although the terms on compusa's page say it could take 6-8 weeks for the refund...I had the impression that it was instant but I guess nothing is instant these days...

Either way best price I could find anywhere.

*edit*
Here's a link to the Paypal info: http://www.compusa.com/applica...ate.asp?CampaignID=524

Just noticed it says 6-8 weeks AFTER the promotion ends...and it says the promo can run all the way into September...so don't expect the $20 back anytime fast :)

uh it's 52 cents cheaper from my source :p j/k but there is the $20 paypal promo going on too so i think that's worth mentioning, even if you're not going to get the 20 bucks for awhile. i ordered mine right before posting this last night and it's already shipped and i have my ups tracking number woohoo.

Probably a stupid question but...

Is this really better than the TX SR804 I already have? I know the SR606 has 2 more HDMI inputs and True HD. I'm just having trouble seeing how this can come out a year later than the TXSR804 and cost half as much as what I paid at 6ave.com

got mine from 6ave.com for $378.78 shipped after using their 8% off coupon. If your not in NY, NJ or Conn you might not have to pay tax.

Not a stupid question, but one only you can answer based on -your- feature-requirements. It's a fair observation that the 804 had a number of limitations which later units -- even cheaper models -- have improved upon over the two years since your model's release.

Go to onkyo, check-box the receivers you'd like to compare and click COMPARE to see the differences. OOPS! I see Onkyo's deleted the 804 from the comparison list: I'd noted months ago that the 804/5 had different spec formats, so I guess the pre-xx5/6 couldn't be easily compared to the newer model's spec-lists. They used to provide a link to obsolete units, but I don't see that now... yet it may be there.

For -my- use, I'd choose the 606 -except- that it lacks pre-amp outputs (other than sub-wfr). I wouldn't buy the 804/5/6 because of their cost, especially given the eternal Onkyo cock-up of preventing digital-audio inputs going to zone 2 speakers/pre-amps (to remedy-which I'd consider trying the zone-1 pre-amp outputs to an external amplifier).

I was comparing the 805/6 units just before reading this article and noticed some features (e.g. ampacity) were reduced in the 806, so I'd check all details of the 606 to see if anything of concern's been reduced. E.g., there's no phono-input on the 606 as there is on the 804.

That Amazon link lacks s/h and ~$25 taxes for me, so that's the direction I'd lean; your situation may vary.
