Onkyo Receiver random relay clicking

I have an Onkyo TX-NR609 and I sometimes get a seemly random relay click (From the actual receiver not the speakers). I know the receiver has a fan inside (Props to Onkyo for finally adding a fan as these things run HOT!) but is the relay click related to the fan turning off/on? or is it something else? and should I worry?

Thanks

it's normal and a well known Onkyo receiver behavior. I think the newer ones that just came out are quieter. If you google onkyo relay click, you will find tons of threads about it.

It's not normal...not while on a source. If you don't set your listening mode for a particular source, while selecting a new source, it will search for the best mode, hence the clicking. In that respect, yes, it's normal.

Any new one does just the same. My 5008 will do it if you don't set it up properly.

I have a Onkyo TX-NR709 and every now and then I will hear a relay click from the unit but doesnt seem to effect my sound output at all so I would say it is normal.

Does anybody know what that relay is for?

Nobody can tell you what relay is clicking on your machine specifically. Besides what difference does it make you can't do anything about it anyway. Unless it's driving you up a wall or effecting performance I suggest you just ignore it. :)

It does not make a difference or affect the performance of the AVR Unit I was just curious
So no need to be rude dude:thumbsdown:

My intention was not to be rude just honest. I mean asking a question like what relay is clicking on my receiver and what does this relay do is simply impossible for anyone to definitively answer besides a repair technician. The members already told you relay clicking was normal behavior for an Onkyo receiver. I apologize if I hurt your feelings.

If on a source, and the source doesn't change, it is NOT normal for a relay to click unless there's an interruption of the signal, it changes and/or the receiver is not configured correctly.

Again, the clicking, in particular in Onkyos, is normal. Other makes don't, but it's a design thing, not a defective thing. Just what Onkyo did.

So again...normal watching, unless the signal or source changes, it should not click. When it does do it, does it two it twice in relative close succession?

Agreed....but since the audio is not effected by the switching of the relay I don't think it's likely it's switching source inputs do you? Seems much more likely to just be the normal operating characteristics of this particular receiver. :)
