im just wondering how to activate the upconversion for the wii from 480p to 1080i. i connected my wii via component to the dvd port and then changed the input to game via the menu. i also have my ps3 connected via hdmi to the game port. i just have one hdmi output from the receiver to the tv.

i know its something in the settings, how do i get the wii in 1080i in "game" and keep the ps3 in 1080p in "game". thanks

Assuming you have a fixed pixel display, with the component, the Onkyo is converting to 1080i and then your display to 1080p.

Why not set them on different inputs? I found in the manual for my 605 that it says it will upconvert it, with an asterisk, but no footnote anywhere for that asterisk.

Why would you bother doing 1080i instead of both at 1080p? There should be a setting to force 1080.

1080i or 1080p whatever the upconversion is i dont care...its much better than 480p...does anyone know how to do it with the 607 for the wii?

"220, 221, whatever it takes."

Mine does it automatically. Does the image not fill up the whole screen? Is your TV stretching it to fill? How do you know it is 480p on your TV?

I'm not entirely clear on your problem here, relating to what the receiver is actually doing, but I think the root of the problem is this (p40 of manual):
For composite video and component video upconversion for the HDMI OUT, the HDMI Input setting must be set to ?- - - - -?.
That receiver doesn't like multiple sources connected to the same input if you want the non-HDMI signal to be upconverted. I would assume from what I've read in the manual that it's not upconverting the resolution nor to HDMI when using the Wii...if so, then use another input for it.

You want the two systems on separate inputs, but you can probably rename 'aux' or 'dvd' or something to 'wii', which would be useful because you could then set up sound preferences separately, too.

As for upconverting, there may be a global setting to upconvert all incoming component, or it may be per-input. Sometimes you have to spend some time with the manual, or just mash all the menu buttons until you figure it out😉
