Diced onions on your burger, taco, cheese steak or whatever you put them on, do you first soak the diced onion in water and then squeeze them dry in a kitchen towel or cook them or put them in raw? I think they are too strong raw, but it depends on the other flavors and how well they can stand up to the strong taste of onion I suppose.

It really depends on what I am having, though I never do the soaking thing. I either cook/caramelize them or put them in raw.

Never soak. If I use them raw I want full flavor. And if you cook them they mellow naturally.

OP, you forgot the best choice ... any way.

I made an Indian rice dish with sauteed onions last night while today its burgers with all the fixins ... including raw sliced onions (also sliced dills, tomatoes, etc.).

I like them all ways, and don't have a strong preference. I've never soaked them.

What kind of onions? Yellow? Red? White? Green? If I'm going to caramelize them & add to meat, I use white. If it's something that's going to be sauteing for quite a while, then it's spanish onions. I like green onions diced up and put on food fresh; that's somewhat seasonal though. And, of course, there are sweet onions which I prefer sliced up on things like burgers, rather than yellow onions.

throw the onion peel into the grill's charcoal for an amazing aroma.

I used to hate onions as a kid and suddenly out of tin air I started to eat them and now cannot have a dinner without some.

I like all three. I soak onions for salsas and a few other uses, but am more likely to eat them raw (sandwiches, etc.)

Used to hate them as a kid but now I love onions pretty much no matter how they are prepared.

I absolutely LOVE onions. Especially raw. Me and my mom used to have onion sandwiches. Just bread, mayo and onion. Awesome. Onions truly are the wonder of food and you'll find few dishes without them.

A co-worker used to have terrible reactions in his mouth to things he ate and it took years to figure out. Turned out to be onions and it severely limits what he can eat. I'd rather lose an arm then have to never eat onions again.

The real question is what kind of onions do you like the best raw? Red, white, yellow, sweet?

Not a fan of cooked like em sliced super thin on a burger. Hate when you take a bite of burger and drag a whole slice of onion out. I'm looking at you A&W
