OnePlus One or Moto X 2014?

I was just about to get a Moto X 2014. Then I saw the OnePlus One. Spec wise they are about the same, with the OPO being a bit bigger. What I am confused about is the OS. Does the OPO run stock android or some kind of skin? Which phone seems to be the better one. And does the OPO get updates from Google fast like a pure edition type phone? Or do you have to wait months like a samsung or HTC phone?
 
Oneplus One runs a custom CyanogenMod build currently 12s or their own homebuilt Oxygen OS. Updates were to come from Cyanogen but they have had somewhat of a falling out with Cyanogen recently so who knows what the future holds but OnePlus has said that they want to move to their own software.

It is a very good phone for the price and has probably the best battery life of any Android phone.

The Moto X has some tricks of its own and has Motorola backing it so customer service is much, much better if you have an issue. Camera ND battery life would be it's major downfalls compared to the OnePlus One.

I had the OnePlus One from July to January and it beat out many phones until I got tired of it and moved to a Nexus 6, then a Note 4 and finally to my current phone an iPhone 6 Plus.
 
I've got the moto x. I like most of the extra moto features, the OLED screen that only lights up the time when you reach towards the phone, always on OK Google with customisable key word etc etc.

The battery life isn't great, but the fast charge sort of makes up for this (I can get home at after work with 40%, and a half hour charge will easily take it to 75%, its just the last 25% where charging slows down to normal speeds).
 
With the oneplus one do you get OTA updates from Cyanogen or Google? Or do you have to update yourself, download and install the ROM etc Also yes it would be the 64GB OPO vs he 16gb Moto X....

The one thing I really didn't like about the OPO is the the screen. It looked so washed out when I took a look at my friend's one. My HTC m7 looked better to my eyes.
 
Oneplus is a gaming phone. If that is not your priority I'd stick with X. I'll prefer Moto G over one plus for casual usage. X would be a beast anyway.
 
I left my 2013 Moto X for a OnePlus One. I miss the Moto software features but in the end the extra storage and speed win out for me.

My son had a 2014 Moto X on Verizon and we were both unimpressed after a month of using it. The battery life is meh and the UI took a hit after Lollipop (our opinions of course). Perhaps once Lollipop 5.1 hits the Moto it will be better.

As for the update issue, updates for Cyanogen OS are delivered by OTA. If you want OxygenOS you'll have to flash manually the first time and then updates will be delivered via OTA. In the past OPO updates were quite speedy but the move to Lollipop brought the speed of update delivery to nearly a screeching halt. Hopefully now that they've got the codebase up to Lollipop they'll be fast again.
 
So is the OPO on 5.0 now? I see you no longer need an invite you can just buy it. Just on the fence about the Moto x or the OPO. The opo is about $320 out the door the moto x is about $580 so both 16GB big difference
 
Don't know that but I can tell you OnePlusone gets updates way after Motos and Nexuses. If you're not a gamer go with X.

That isn't completely fair. Sure the 2014 X has had Lollipop for a while, but the 2013 X is barely getting Lollipop now. People have been running around for a year and a half calling these Motos Nexus-like devices but the honest truth is that seems to only apply when you have the most recent device and its new. That would give me pause in buying the 2014 X, as who knows what happens to it when the 2015 X is released.

In fact the Nexus and many GPe devices (like the GPe M7/M8) got 5.0 and 5.1 LOOOOOONG before the One Plus One or that older Moto X. Now that the GPe program is dead if you want a Nexus-like device the answer is a Nexus. Hopefully Google will come out with a non-ridiculous sized Nexus sooner than they otherwise would so the nerd community can have an obvious choice again.
 
I have a OPO. Wife has a Moto X. We both prefer the Moto X, even if the battery life is substantially worse than the OPO's.

This isn't mentioned enough but, the Moto X has killer reception. Strong signal everywhere where the OPO sometimes struggles.

This is quite true, my 2013 Moto X stomps all over my OPO when it comes to LTE reception. The OPO does well enough though, luckily I live in an area that is covered very well by AT&T LTE.

That's the one thing I miss about my Moto X. That thing never ever got hot due to low reception because it was that great at grabbing even the smallest signal. On Sunday, I was in church, and my leg started to feel a little hot. I took my OPO out, and the thing has absolutely no signal. It was in emergency call only mode. I had to leave it on the pew for it to get signal and calm itself down.
 
The only thing the OPO has going for it is price - QC & customer support suck. Besides, it's last gen tech, you're buying a device that's about to be outdated.
