One year of DreamHost web hosting for $9.24

If you need budget hosting, Dreamhost is running a one day special: $9.24 for one year of web hosting.

I used them a few years ago, and they were OK. However, you are probably as likely to hear horror stories as positive reviews. Don't run a critical business site there, but for a simple family/personal page and/or picture hosting, the price is right. I would have probably stayed with them longer, but they demand a renewal at a crazy expensive price when your year is up.

How does this compare to HostPC's starter plan for $13.95/yr renewable?

EDIT: I decided to take the plunge. I'll try to update the thread with how it goes, if this thread goes anywhere.

"On paper", Dreamhost looks better with unlimited storage, bandwidth, email and MySQL DBs. However, these are not the type of hosting accounts where you set up a large critical site. Thus, whatever HostPC provides is sufficient for a basic web site.

In real life, it will boil down to the uptime, and that's probably a coin toss. Nobody can say which company will "end the year" with a higher uptime.

For me personally, the ability to renew at the low rate was the deciding factor for going with HostPC. I don't see myself paying $120/year for any hosting package that is not from a premium-tier provider.
