One week later: Siri Rules! Read why in here

Well I've had my iPhone 4s for a week now and my opinion of Siri has changed drastically. It's pretty incredible. I no longer think it sucks like I said not too long ago (http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2199204).

Specific points of awesome that should be noted:

- Over a week's time it's become very accurate
- I text using Siri almost exclusively; it's way faster than manual texting, and in the car it's literally a life saver
- It will punctuate if you tell it to ("isn't that awesome question mark"= Isn't that awesome?)
- I can't explain this, but it's now failing over very well between 3G and WiFi - this was a major gripe of mine and it's not happening anymore.
- Things I think of that I want to know while driving, I no longer forget, I just hold up my phone and talk to it.

That it's now failing over intelligently between 3G and WiFi is fantastic. I was really pissed about this but it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.

Thats good to hear. Siri looks pretty interesting, I hope in a year it'll really take off. I know it sounds stupid, but I really hate setting up alarms manually. It would be nice to have Siri do it, unfortunately I dont have a 4S.

Wheresmybacon, if you are really happy with Siri, can you go back and change the title of your other thread or add a note to the first post referring to this one? We get a fair amount of traffic from Google and if you really have changed your mind, it would be good to make sure that people don't read the other post instead of this one and retain the impression you think it's awful.

If you don't believe me, type "siri sucks" into Google. Your other post is the third search result. 🙂

Good to hear you changed your mind somewhat. Its one of those features you either like or don't like.

I never tried SIRI as the jump from the 4 to 4s wasn't for me. Guess Apple used as an incentive to upgrade from 4 to 4s. The 4s ended my relationship with iPhones 🙂

SIRI sounds interesting but I'm sure Apple made it the way they (thought you) wanted as with all things they produce.

I used it for about a day or so; it was fun to play with, and that's about it. After about 6 or 7 hours of playing with it I'm hard pressed to see a reason to use it except when driving, and even then the regular old voice command of 'Call/Dial' is sufficient for me.

Right now it feels just like a slightly improved version of what Android and WP7 already have.

I agree. Siri isn't totally perfect, but it's great for texting in the car, any time you need to make a quick note, etc. If you're like me you're always pulling out your phone to look things up online, and Siri is awesome for that too. The biggest hurdle to using it seriously is getting used to stating all of your punctuation. Eg to get "A, B, C" you have to actually say "A comma B comma C".

i would be much more impressed if Siri can recognize your voice and ONLY your voice. so you dont have to turn the radio down while giving commands to it. if you are in a crowded room, you cant always turn the volume down....

Careful now. Saying that Siri isn't the greatest thing ever invented and that you're already satisfied with the voice commands you currently use was almost enough to make several iFanatics lose their minds in another thread.

A link from the last thread to this one would be good, I think.

But anyway, interesting to read this. I have sincerely disregarded Siri ever since I learned that it wouldn't do well with accent. I myself don't have an accent, but my family members do, and it didn't look like Siri would do them any better. Your experience has proved otherwise.

Now I wonder if they would keep adding more phrases so I can say "ring me up in 20" instead of "set my alarm to 20 minutes later". If I can do that, I'll definitely grab a 4S as soon as the international version comes out.

Are you sirious?

hahaha.. for some reason that cracked me up.

OP my son wants an iphone instead of android and I'm tempted to get him an iphone 4S just so I can play with Siri, good on you for updating your opinion after using it for a bit.

LOL, well, wait until they read that I sold my iPhone 4S for a profit and bought a older generation WP7 phone.

Done! Thanks for the heads up.
