One way to manage Amex V/MC rebate cards

I often opt for receiving my rebates in the form of a credit card. They charge you a small fee and the rebate card arrives much faster than a check.

When I get the card ... I promptly call the Automated Payment line for my cable company (Comcast) and make a partial payment of the current bill using the full balance on the credit card (Comcast does not penalize for payment via CC). Sadly ... typical rebate amounts are much smaller than my monthly comcast bill 🙁

This means I don't have to lug that credit card when I go shopping ... and risk it getting misplaced.

Additionally, I prefer rebates in the form of a CC ... rather than a check ... because of the time and gas consumed in getting it deposited at the bank.

One other option is to retain a $1 balance on the card (instead of using the entire balance to pay the Comcast bill). Now one can use that CC at online sites that require a valid CC for registration purposes (hotel bookings etc.). Its more secure than using your regular CC.

Time and gas consumed in getting a check deposited - 30 seconds and 0 gallons of gas using USAA deposit@mobile.

I'd much rather have a check. I have gotten some prepaid cards from AT&T lately, though. I just use them on gas...

i get the cards and just use them at Target. Target's POS lets you pay with multiple sources easily
so i just go buy some toilet paper or other vitals

if you're seriously that lazy, why not just take it as a statement credit on your credit card account?

By far the easiest way to get rid of it is to buy a Amazon gift card for the exact amount (and just send it to yourself). I've done it multiple times with cards that had anywhere for 60 cents to $5 on it.
So either just go ahead and turn the entire thing into an Amazon or use it until you get some small number (like 60 cents) and then turn that into an Amazon gift card.

You sure make things unnecessarily complicated.
