My cable company isn't planning on adding two-way cable to my area in the next year. I can't get DSL because I live 4 miles away from the central office. My only other reasonable option is one-way cable. I understand the basics of how it works - you use the cable modem to download, and a regular modem to upload. But how does this get set up on my side? Do they make special one-way cable modems that have a regular modem built in? Or do I have to use a regular cable modem hooked up to a computer that has a regular modem in it? My preference would be to just hook the cable modem up to my router directly, the way I had it when I had two-way cable in college.
